The Sport Utility Vehicle is a very popular selection in the US these days, especially for a family of at least four. Many people like to have a third row already included with their SUV, for long trips and to have an extra row for other passengers. Following is a list of the best 3 row SUVs in the market today, along with some pros and cons of each.

First, we will start with what is considered an affordable 3 row SUV. They are the Chevrolet Traverse and the Ford Explorer.

Chevrolet Traverse – The Traverse fits eight people comfortably. It is not meant for driving in the woods or canyons, but it will ride comfortably for every day traveling and vacations. It sells between $29K and $39K. The gas mileage is very decent, 17 city/ 24 highway. It is offered in four trim levels, LS, 1LT, 2LT, and LTZ. There is a lot of cargo space and it drives extremely well for its size and price.

Ford Explorer – The Explorer seats seven people comfortably. The third row is an okay size but if you have to put adults on the row, it may be tight. It will ride well through both rugged landscapes and every day travel. It is priced between $28K and $39K. The gas mileage is good, 17 city/ 25 highway. The Explorer was named the 2011 North American Truck of the Year. It comes in the base model, XLT, and Limited model. Ford offers a three year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and a five year/60,000 powertrain warranty.

If you are in the market for a pricier 3 row SUV, some of the best are the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Toyota Sequoia.

Chevrolet Tahoe – The Tahoe is a staple in the SUV market and considered one of the best. It has seating capacity for nine. It will ride well, wherever you plan to take it. It sells between $37K and $54K. The third row seat is not considered to be comfortable for adults and if you have any cargo you need to carry, you have to remove the third row and it is very heavy. The gas mileage could be better, 15 city/21 highway. But it is classified as a large SUV and they tend to use more gas. The hybrid version of the Tahoe is available, for a bigger price. The Tahoe comes in three models, the LS, LT, and LTZ. It comes with a three year/36,000 bumper to bumper warranty, a five year/100,000 powertrain warranty and a six year/100,000 rust through corrosion warranty.

Toyota Sequoia – The Tahoe can tow up to 7,400 pounds so it is a very sturdy vehicle. The seating capacity is eight people. The third row is considered comfortable enough to seat adults as well. The interior controls on the driver side are not considered to be very ergonomical so it received low grades on interior. The gas mileage is not very good, 14 city/20 highway. It comes in three models, the SR5, the Limited, and Platinum. Toyota offers a three year/36,000 mile basic warranty and a five year/60,000 powertrain warranty.

So there are many options available to you in the SUV market, depending on what your needs are. Hopefully, the information above can help in your search.

The 2 door suv is fast becoming one of the most sought after automobile class today. Brought about by rising oil prices and the continued need for reliable and powerful vehicles that can provide the necessary utility and comfort, people nowadays are on the lookout for that perfect combination. While it started out as a lesser version of their much bigger brothers, today’s 2 door suv has carved a personality all its own and has found a niche that only it can fill.

Because of its recent proliferation, buyers now need to make a more informed decision. The choices have become so specific and the features so detailed that you have to accurately match your lifestyle with the SUV you choose to get the most out of your purchase.

The popular Jeep Wrangler for example comes in eight different variants namely: Sport, Unlimited Sport, 70th Anniversary edition, Unlimited Sport RHD, Sahara, Rubicon, Unlimited 70th Anniversary edition and the Unlimited Rubicon. It sports a 3.8L 202 hp V6 standard engine with a 6-speed manual transmission and measures 152.180″ long and 73.7″ wide. Its height is 70.0″ and weighs approximately 370lb. This 2 door suv has the looks to back up its muscle with steel wheels, all terrain tires, variable intermittent wipers, removable soft top and rear side hinged doors. Further proof of its more modern design is the presence of several safety features such as 4-wheel ABS, child seat anchors, engine immobilizer and emergency breaking assist.

Another noteworthy SUV is the Ford Explorer Sport model. This variant of the Ford Explorer is the perfect example of a vehicle originally created as a lesser version of its older brother, which eventually developed on its own. Although there was only one Sport model, several 2- door variants soon followed such as the XL from 1991- 1997, the Eddie Bauer from 1991-1994 and the Expedition in 1995. The original Sport model had a 4.0 liter V6 engine with an option for 4-wheel or rear wheel drive. For safety, it had an anti-lock brake for the rear-wheel drive option.

Finally we have the Chevrolet Blazer two-door variant. This model, which was hailed as “Truck of the Year” by Motor Trend Magazine in 1996, is equipped with a 5.7 liter V8 engine and produces an impressive 255hp at 4,600 rpm. A 4-speed automatic transmission is available for those who do prefer it over conventional transmission. If you’re looking for that pulling power, this model does not disappoint as it gives off 330lb/feet at 2,800 rpm.

All in all, these models present a legitimate and strong choice for the modern needs of many individuals. Their costs are usually lower when compared to their 4-door variants and they are often more fuel efficient. Created for individuals who demand a lot from their vehicle but are also looking to spend smartly, the 2 door variant of the suv is fast becoming the obvious and best choice providing the best value for your money.

This segment will be a 7 seater SUV comparison featuring the Chevrolet Tahoe versus the Ford Explorer, taking into account how they function and the current market trends that have led to the recent modifications in the models that are making a debut into the scene. We have seen other types of cars from different manufacturers but with the Chevrolet Tahoe 7 seater SUV, compared to the Ford explorer and other models, one way or the other Chevrolet Tahoe comes on top of all its competitors with a V6 engine and a two or four wheel drive options on several models. On a highway, it dominates with the all power terrain ability. This has been viewed as the most promising label among all manufacturers currently in the market.

There are some very interesting interior features of the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, for example, the 7inch DVD system on the rear seat coming with wireless headphones, and a HDD navigation package that comes with the new models. This has proven to be very enticing in meeting the needs of vehicle buyers. The Chevrolet Tahoe offers sleek looks and more power, consuming 19 gallons per mile and despite all the power on the Tahoe, it is still within the reach of most buyers.

On the outside, the Chevrolet Tahoe 7 seater SUV compared to the Ford Explorer which is a front wheel drive and consumes 20miles/gallon, it clearly shows that the Tahoe has come to be of more benefit mostly to families due to its ability of holding the maximum capacity of seven persons comfortably with enough leg room. We have the cargo room that ranges around 16 -17 cubic meters and this has not been witnessed in other models that are not designed to handle many persons and cargo at one time. That is another reason why the Tahoe tends to top the list as a good model.

Another outstanding feature is the ability of the seats to be folded up and create more room for cargo and this is one unique feature that stand to make this car more reliable than all others.

All these don’t go without taking note of the fuel capacity, which is the main determinant in most of the models. We have the 4Lit V6 engine housing 266 horsepower and other types of the same SUV come with an additional 310 horsepower on a 5.6 Lit V6 engine, hence more power feed and better performance to the maximum and this also suites certain terrains. On the downside, this fuel consumption is high compared to other more efficient, recent models.

All this come at a price tag of $21,000 – $22,000 depending on the extra features and horsepower of the engine; and these are the simple margins that make the Chevrolet Tahoe 7seater SUV more expensive than other models. However, this is about the only notable disadvantage to the Tahoe in our 7 seater SUV comparison. All other considerations lead to the conclusion that this is one of the best models around if you’re in the market for a 7-seater SUV.

SUV’s have been popular for a number of years. This has been true even as gas prices have gone up and SUV’s have been infamous for poor gas mileage. Most potential buyers are looking for an SUV with plenty of room, able to handle various weather, and the towing capability you expect from an SUV. So which model is the best 7 seater SUV?

The 2011 Ford Explorer is an SUV that has been popular for quite sometime. This top of the line vehicle has received national highway traffic safety administration’s five star crash test rating for an astonishing five years straight. As far as seating and cargo go this versatile SUV features a 50/50 split fold rear seat. This SUV is considered one of the best on-road and most competent off-road vehicle of its class. The safety features for the Ford Explorer include inflatable rear safety belts, AdvanceTrac with roll stability control for preventing roll overs, and a safety canopy system. These advanced safety enhancements help make the 2011 Ford Explorer the best 7 seater SUV. One fantastic feature in the 2011 Ford Explorer is the dual moon roof that any 2nd row passenger is sure to love.

Some of the technical features that this beauty offers is a towing capacity of up to 7115 pounds. With all seats folded, the available cargo space is 80.7 cubic feet, and with all seats upright it still has 21 cubic feet of space. Even with all this it still has decent fuel economy at 14/20. For this type of vehicle that ranks about average. This car is considered by many to be rugged enough for a Ford Explorer fan and comfortable enough to keep his family happy. This vehicle is currently offered in three versions. The base Explorer, The Explorer XLT, and the Explorer limited. Ford is planning to release a 4 cylinder turbo charged version later this year.

This vehicle does have some downside as well. The biggest complaint is that it may be a little over priced. The base Explorer with a V-6 can run around 28,000. When you began to look at the explorers that are fully loaded they can run upwards of 50,000 dollars. A lot of that cost comes because of the high tech terrain response system. Many think this is not worth the money. Another downside to the 2011 Ford Explorer is it has a less than attractive warranty. Extremely heavy duty off roading is not recommended with this vehicle. It is more of a light off-road vehicle.

Even with those slight drawbacks the 2011 Ford Explorer is still considered by many to be the best 7 seater SUV. An overall look at this SUV would show you that it is a far superior vehicle when it comes to safety. It has been names an insurance institute for highway safety “top pick for safety”. Its next best feature is probably its interior. It has an extremely comfortable interior with a look of sophistication. The exterior has a squared rugged look that many like but a few do not. The performance of the 2011 Ford Explorer is above average with great steering and good around corners. The Ford Explorer is considered to be average when it comes to reliability. It does however help that it has a three year warranty. With so many SUV choice available it seems you can still count on Ford.

One of the big appeals of having a 4×4 SUV is the ability to take it off-road when the mood strikes, while enjoying comfort and sporty styling in normal driving conditions. You can choose to have four-wheel-drive on practically any size SUVs, but which are really the best for 2012.

Some of the most popular four-by-fours are big, heavy pick-up trucks. They can be difficult to handle, and are not really the best vehicles for families, with limited seating and storage issues.

That’s not the case with SUVs. Generally, 4×4 SUVs are easy to drive whether you’re in standard 2×4 mode or have switched over to the four-wheel-drive setting. And SUVs have lots of flexibility when it comes to seating and cargo space inside the vehicle. That makes them a much better choice for a family vehicle.

The most highly recommended 4×4 models tend to be mid or full-size SUVs, like the Toyota Sequoia, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Ford Explorer or the Nissan Pathfinder.

Nissan Pathfinder

These four all rate high on the things that are important in a 4×4 SUV – enough power to navigate demanding terrain, stability and ease of handling, along with hefty towing capacity.

Anyone who experiences the challenge of winter driving knows that there is nothing more reassuring than getting behind the wheel of a four wheel drive vehicle. With a 4×4, you can slam through heavy snow with ease, maintain traction on ice covered surfaces, and know that you’re not going to get stuck in your driveway when the plows go by.

The 2012 Toyota Sequoia ranks at the top of the list in off-road capability, followed by the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 2012 Ford Explorer and the 2012 Nissan Pathfinder had lower ratings.

A 4×4 SUV is a solid choice for rugged off-roading. The extra power that is a trait in full-size SUVs ensures that your vehicle won’t bog down in rough or steep terrain. And 4×4 SUVs are made tough enough to take the abuse of these conditions.

Independent rear suspension in the Toyota Sequoia provides outstanding ride quality on the highway. This SUV serves up lots of power while providing a comfortable, smooth ride.

Toyota Sequoia

It gets even better in off-road conditions. The Sequoia can handle steep terrain and deep ruts comfortably. With lots of ground clearance, it manages the roughest conditions with ease.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a pleasure to drive on the highway, with responsive steering and a smooth ride. You aren’t lacking for power with this high performance SUV either, as it cruises along nicely at highway speeds.

The Cherokee is a very capable off-road vehicle. The innovative Selec-Track technology allows you to select the best mode for your off-roading experience. Leaving it in the auto setting can actually result in a stiffer, bouncier feel.

The Nissan Pathfinder is anything but smooth on the open road. It has the feel of driving a truck because it sits on a four-wheel independent suspension system, instead of the solid rear axle other SUVs use.

When heading off-road with the Pathfinder though, it’s a different story. Hitting ruts, bumps, or dips on an unpaved road or in an off-road situation brings out the best in this SUV’s suspension. With almost 9 inches of clearance, you won’t have to worry about going in too deep.

Ford Explorers of old were notorious for poor handling and a subpar ride. That issue has been addressed in the new Explorer and the result is a softer ride and improved handling on the highway.

Ford Explorer

The Explorer is not as capable off-road as other 4×4 SUVs, but good enough for some light challenges. Off-road, the Explorer uses its patented Terrain Management system to help. This system allows the driver to select the type of terrain and the system responds by changing powertrain parameters accordingly.

You can’t beat a four-wheel-drive SUV when you’re towing. You’ll find that a full-size SUV will have a larger towing capacity than a small or mid-sized one. If you do a lot of towing, go with a full-size 4×4 SUV.

Both the Sequoia and the Cherokee can tow up to 7400 pounds. That’s not surprising for the Jeep with its 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine. But the Toyota impresses with only a 5.7-liter V8 engine powering it.

Less efficient are the Pathfinder with a towing capability of 7000 pounds with a 5.6-liter V8 and the Explorer which can tow loads of up to 5000 pounds with a 3.5-liter V6.

If you like to hit venture off-road in comfort, then a 4×4 SUV may be right for you.

For those who are looking for a new SUV, but are also looking for the best gas mileage, or are looking to “go green”, there are several new 30 mpg suv vehicles available to consumers, which is going to give them their powerful SUV, and the car that will suit their family’s needs, and will still allow them to save at the pump when they have to fill up.

So, when considering the newest suvs on the market today, most companies, if not all, are now offering hybrid suvs, or at least more fuel efficient suvs on the market, which all offer a 30 mpg suv to the consumer. So, below are a few of the newer model suvs that are offering more fuel efficiency, yet still getting the same power that you are looking for, when purchasing your new suv.

Toyota 4Runner

First off, the Toyota 4Runner offers a 30 mpg suv for the consumer to turn to. With the 2011 and 2012 models, Toyota has introduced a new model 4Runner, which gets 32 miles per gallon on the highway, and up to 28 miles per gallon in the city, which comes out to an overal 30 miles per gallon. The body has also changed on the 4Runner, which is a lot sportier on the exterior, offers a new leather upholstery, more cargo room, and 60/ 40 folding rear seats, for added space if needed for travel. The 4Runner still seats up to five, but if the cargo space is used, can seat up to six passengers comfortably.

There is also a new digital dashboard, which offers everything right at the drivers fingertips, allowing them to see all functions easily, and to be able to get a cleaner look than older models. It also offers an mp3/ ipod connection port, AWD or RWD, and the best in safety features, including side and curtain airbags base. There are a few models to consider as well, including the LX, LE, and other base models, which are going to offer additional (or fewer) base features to choose from.

Ford Explorer Hybrid

Another car to consider when choosing a 30 mpg suv is the 2011 Ford Explorer Hybrid. Not only is it a hybrid, but it offers up to 33 miles per gallon overall. It can get up to 35 on the highway, and up to 31 or 32 in city driving. The new Explorer hyrbid offers seating for up to seven passengers, offers satellite radio, standard dashboard, CD (6 CD changer), and AM/FM radio base. It also offers a great deal of safety, coming base with all season tires, front and side curtain airbags, and a rugged exterior, and a shorter height (than other suvs), which will ensure that the suv is less likely to flip.

There are also several models that the consumer can choose from, which can include leather interior, DVD and GPS systems, and digital dashboard, but of course these features are going to run a higher price on the Explorer of your choice. However, the base package car does come with all safety built in, and still gives the great drive and power that suv drivers are looking for, but a much more fuel economic model than in past Explorer’s, and in other suvs on the market today.

Dodge Durango

Another car to consider is the Dodge Durango suv. This gets an overall 30 mpg (32 highway miles, and up to 29 city miles per gallon). The Durango is also a much trendier suv, and offers a great looking exterior, which is both stylish and sporty, that many consumers are looking for. The Durango also comes with leather interior seating, offering a more luxurious base package than other suvs on the market. The Durango offers an electric as well as a standard fuel engine, and although it is not a hybrid, does run on less emissions due to the split in the engines.

It also offers front and side window airbags, controls on the steering wheel (radio settings and volume), automatic startup (self start ignition), and can seat up to seven passengers (5 larger adults comfortably). It also offers a satellite radio standard, and CD player, and there are several air conditioning (heater) vents throughout the suv, so that those in the back can control the temperature setting that they are getting, rather than getting the same temperature setting as those in the front seat. The Durango also offers the option to get a DVD player and a GPS player, in the LE model, however it is going to run the consumer a higher price.

There are also other luxury vehicles such as Audi, BMW, and Lexus, which have introduced newer hybrid models, that are getting 30 mps suv numbers, but these autos are much pricier on the cost scale, and although they offer much more luxury than most base suvs, however are not purchased by nearly as many consumers, due to the price tag that they carry. But, for those who are looking for pure luxury, and want the fuel efficiency, there are new model hybrids to consider in these pricier and more luxurious name brand manufacturers in the car world.

No matter what consumers are looking for in their new suv, there are several manufacturers that are offering hybrid, and more fuel efficient suvs, trying to get consumers to purchase these models. So, when considering fuel efficiency, yet still getting that powerful drive you are looking for in your suv, and the space you need to seat your family, there are several models to consider with 30 mpg suv models on the market.

There are millions of SUV’s on the roads today, although we are starting to see fewer and fewer 2 door SUV’s out there? Why is that? For many people, it is because they find that a 2 door SUV is not convenient for a busy and active family. In fact, there are very few of these SUV’s coming off the assembly line these days. However, one that is still in production, and still very popular is the Jeep Wrangler. In fact, it is probably one of the only 2 door SUV’s still being produced at this time. If you are not particular about the age of your vehicle, then it is possible to get other types of these SUV’s used, including the Ford Explorer and Chevy Blazer.

Family Safety

One of the biggest reasons why many people are opting for SUV’s with more doors is safety. The more doors there are, the more exits there are in case of an emergency, such as an accident. When you have a large family, a 2 door vehicle is not always the most practical choice. This is especially true if you have infants and toddlers that need to be strapped into safety seats. The easier it is to get in and out of a vehicle, the easier it is going to be to get children properly fastened into their seats.

Not only is it safer to have a vehicle with many doors rather than a 2 door SUV, larger families can benefit in other ways as well. For one thing, if you are in a hurry, you don’t have to be late just because it takes forever for everyone to wait their turn and get fastened in to their seats. Your family members or friends can get in and out of the vehicle quickly using other doors, which is going to make family outings a lot easier.

Lack of Space

Even though one of the main reasons people buy SUV’s is so that they can have vehicles that have lots of space, there is not actually a whole lot of extra space in a 2 door model. You can seat more people in an SUV that has more doors, and if you have a larger family, or are going to be taking a lot of people to various places, then you need to make sure that you have plenty of seating. You will also not have as much room for things like groceries and other purchases, and it may actually be much more convenient for you to purchase an SUV that has more doors, so you have more room for people and stuff.

Larger Vehicles Look Better with More Doors

Take a look at many different SUV’s, with two doors and models with more doors. Do you notice anything that really stands out to you? The SUV’s that have more doors tend to look better. When you have a larger vehicle, two smaller doors can kind of look out of place. When you have more doors, the vehicle is going to be much more aesthetically pleasing, because things are going to look more proportionate. With most of today’s SUV’s having at least four doors, model with two doors sitting right beside them just doesn’t look right to most people.

On a Positive Note

With the prices of gas rising all the time, everyone is looking for ways to save money on their fuel consumption. One way to do this is by using smaller vehicles, and this is one way that having a 2 door SUV can be a really good thing. They are not nearly as hard on gas as their larger counterparts with more doors, which automatically makes them a bit easier on gas. Not only can you save money by using a smaller SUV, you can also help protect the environment, because you are not going to be burning as much fuel, so you will be conserving energy.

If you are in the market for a new SUV, you will have many things to consider. If you have a larger family, you may want to opt for a model that has at least four doors, especially if you have younger children. If you are not concerned about having a lot of seating space, and you want to save money on your fuel, then you may want to opt for a 2 door SUV. In the end, the decision is yours. The best thing to do is to test drive a few different models, and see which one is going to be best suited to your particular needs.
